About scrollnames

scrollnames is a free set of fantasy name generators for tabletop players, game masters, novelists and anyone who needs a believable name for an elf ranger, a mountain town, a dragon or the tavern where the party meets. There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to install: pick a generator, press Generate, copy what you like.

How the names are made

Every generator has its own word lists and construction rules. A dwarf name is built from different sounds than an elf name, a tavern name follows a different pattern than a kingdom. The rules also filter out combinations that are hard to say, such as long strings of consonants or three identical letters in a row. Generation happens in your browser, so results appear instantly and the names you generate are not sent to a server.

Each page also shows hand-picked featured names with short meanings, a guide to how names in that category usually work, and answers to common questions. You can share a result with the Share button: the link reproduces exactly the same list.

What you can use the names for

Use them freely in your campaigns, stories, games, streams and projects, commercial or not. We cannot promise that a generated name is unique in the world, so search it before you register it as a trademark or domain.
